I love my Glock 17 and some of the reasons are the accessibility of glock parts. It is important when you by a handgun to be able to get parts for it as necessary and glock parts are easy to come by. That said, I want to explain the 3 main safety mechanism on the Glock. The main thing you will notice is the Glock has no external safety lever. All the safeties will function automatically. In fact, all the glock parts that are concerned with safety work together and are disabled one by one as you pull the trigger.

Number 1 is the trigger safety. You will notice if you look at a glock trigger, it appears to have 2 parts. When the middle part is pressed the entire trigger can be pulled. If the middle part is not pressed first , the trigger will not go back. This makes the weapon safe if it is dropped or if something catches on the trigger from the side but does not pull all parts back together. This safety will only be overcome by firm direct pressure on the entire trigger lever. One of the great benefits of this type of safety is that the gun is always ready to fire, yet will not fire unless the user is consciously deciding to pull the trigger.

Number 2 is the Firing Pin Safety. The firing pin is spring loaded and is in a secured position. It cannot move forward until the trigger is depressed. No firing pin, no discharge. This is also a great safety feature and prevents the gun from accidentally going off if it were dropped on a hard surface or something like pavement. Many time guns get dropped when exiting a vehicle and I have personally known a man who was shot dead with his own gun due to this very thing.

Number 3 is the Dropped Gun Safety. As we just said, dropping a gun was a great safety problem of the past. The Glock incorporates a third safety that effectively places a guard in front of the firing pin until the trigger is properly pulled. This safety will not allow the trigger bar to release the firing pin, unless the trigger is also being depressed. In a dropped gun situation, the trigger will not be pulled and so the firing pin cannot set off the round.

These are 3 very important safety mechanisms of the Glock handgun. Glocks are very durable guns and can be dropped and even ran over by vehicles and still function normally. Should you need to replace any parts of the gun, glock parts are easy to come by. Be safe.

If you keep a handgun around for defense purposes, or you also use it for sport shooting and training at the gun range, you need to keep it clean. A clean gun will stay working longer, have less jams, and be all around safer to operate.

Most people are a little apprehensive about cleaning a gun, because they are afraid they won't be able to put it back together correctly. Actually , there is no need to completely disassemble it. Here are 5 easy steps to cleaning a handgun.
1. Get a cleaning kit for a gun. You can pick up one of these online at Ebay at a good price. You can also find these at Walmart, Dicks Sporting Goods, and other local shops. Sometimes you will see kits designed just for the caliber of your handguns, and these would be the best option for you. When you open the kit, you should find cleaning patches, some solvent, some oil, and a rod. If you have an old toothbrush, that will come in handy as well.
2. Be sure to open the windows or do this in the garage, to stay well ventilated. You need an old workbench or something to work on. It is also a good idea to put a an piece of cardboard down. Now spread out the cleaning supplies and your gun.
Some old rags are also handy at this time, to wipe your gun and to wipe up any spills that may happen.
3. Find the old toothbrush and put a little cleaning solvent on it. Scrub the frame rail and slide it this is an automatic, such as a Glock 17. The main thing you need to do is wipe all the dirt and grime off.
4. Put a small patch on the rod that came with your cleaning kit. The path of cloth should attach in some way to the rod. Now dip the patch end into the solvent. It is usually wise to pour a little solvent out into a small container, so you won't contaminate the rest of the bottle. Push the rod into the barrel of the handgun, and keep pushing until it comes out the other end. Put a clean patch on and do that again. Each time the barrel should be getting cleaner. After you do this a couple of times, put a dry patch on to remove any solvent.
5. When you are sure the barrel is clean, put a very small amount of oil on the moving parts of the gun. It is important to not overdo the oil. A little is enough. If you have some gun grease, you can put some on the slide areas. Finally wipe the gun off and you are done.

This is a very simplified version of handgun cleaning. The key is , do not be intimidated about cleaning your gun. Take it apart and learn all you can about it. The more you understand about how it works, the better you will be at cleaning it, and the better it will service you, when you need it.

It is much nicer than I thought it would be. I got it for 50.00 shipped from a guy on Ebay and it really looks like a quality item.

Combo flashlight laser sight

This thing is awesome! It was very easy to attach to my Glock and I really like it. The main reason I got it is for my home defense weapon. I was laying in bed the other night and I thought I heard something downstairs. I listened for a while and realized I didn't hear an intruder, but it got me thinking about my gun. Where was my gun? Okay, I knew where it was but what about a flashlight? Well I knew I had a flashlight in the bedroom as well, but I started thinking about trying to handle both of those while I was creeping around the house looking for an intruder. Now I am not a professional in home defense and I can shoot okay, but not an expert marksman by any means. I decided it would be good to look into getting a flashlight that would mount on my Glock's Picatinny rail. As I looked for these, I found that I could get a laser sight/flashlight combo.

I really couldn't find any reviews of these so I decided to just go for it. I found this one for only $50.00 shipped and when it arrived , I was very surprised at how good it really was. The flashlight is so bright and having the red laser dot is a big plus. It has settings that allow you to have either the flashlight, the laser, or both on at the same time. I like having both on.

I feel a lot safer with this attached to my home defense handgun. One of the worst things I can think of would be to shoot someone accidentally in the dark. This will not be possible with my new set up.

Chris J asked:

What are your views on concealed carry? I think it is a wonderful idea. Just think if one student or teacher had a gun at VT, what might have happened. Or if people who are mugged or *****. i doubt that the criminal would get very far if even try if he knew that the person carried a gun. I know people think that if you arm everybody that you are just giving guns to nuts and crazies. i have thought of a solution for this problem. everyone who wants to carry a gun must first pass gun safety and have a psychiatric evaluation before being allowed to handle a gun. Just think about the possibilities of good concealed carry could bring about. A lower crime rate would be the biggest one. What I want to know is what are your views and ideas on this subject? be honest i want to know what you think about proposed idea are there any flaws or things that could be improved. Tell me what you really think.
Thank you my good man. If you don't believe me just read the first answer to this question and there is a great example of what could be.

Just like any consumer product in the market, each merchandise belongs to a particular brand and has its own size, configuration, and function. This is no different in the world of non-lethal self-defense hardware. I will only mention 3 categories of such weaponry plus the folding pocket knife since this specific tool can be applied in non-lethal ways.

The Kubotan, or mini-baton, comes in different shapes, sizes, colors, and perceived functions. The most prominent among these is the Kubotan keychain which measures about 5.5 inches in length and 0.75 inch in diameter. It has a keyring at one end and a tip at the other. It is composed of metal and is available in about 4 colors: black, blue, silver, and pink. What is practical about this tool is that it is readily available in your pocket; "don't leave home without it" without your set of keys. Additionally, it is legal to carry in most, if not all, states. The best keychain Kubotan to carry is the one that is painted black so it would appear almost invisible in your hand. Moreover, pick the one that has a pointed tip instead of a flat tip. The Kubotan is considered an impact weapon. Therefore, striking bone or tissue with a pointed tip generates more pressure with a given amount of force applied as compared to hitting with a flat tip.

Other Kubotans are disguised as writing instruments such as the "Sharkie" from Cold Steel. It writes just like a Sharpie but it is a longer and denser version made of high-impact polycarbonate. There are no metal parts in the Sharkie; so, there should be no hassle passing through a metal detector even if you carry it inside your front shirt pocket.

Pepper sprays, or the more accurate term, "defensive sprays," are readily available in all shapes, sizes, compositions, and types of release. They range in sizes from pocket, personal, to police models, from 3 to 5 inches in length, since we are limiting our parameters to personal carry. Of course, the smaller they are, the easier they are to conceal; although, the police model which has a length of 5 inches should not be hard to hide either. The best type of spray to consider is what most law enforcement personnel carry, the one with a flip-top cap. This design minimizes accidental discharges and is one of the easiest to operate. The bigger the content, the longer the spray time; consider this when you happen to spray at varying effective distances. It is crucial for you to spray directly into the eyes, nostrils, and mouth of the attacker where the mucus membranes are located, never just in the "facial area."

Generally, sprays ****** their material in spray or stream form. Pick the one that excretes a stream of liquid since this is less likely to disperse quicker in an enclosed space, thereby affecting you also, and less likely to bounce back in a headwind. Newer versions of pepper sprays emit foam or gel, hence the terms, pepper foam and pepper gel. Foam has the advantage of creeping between the eyeglasses and eyes of a perpetrator. Gel, on the other hand, has a tendency to stick more on the skin; so, the "perp" would have a harder time "shaking off" the gel on his or her face.

Defensive sprays are composed of a pepper solution, OC, with varying concentrations or a mixture of OC, tear gas, and UV (ultraviolet) dye. OC is a natural irritant that irritates and swells the mucus membranes while tear gas affects the respiratory system. The reaction to OC is faster than tear gas; that is why pepper sprays gained in popularity. Some people are almost immune to the effects of OC due to their high tolerance to peppers. So, pick the spray that has both OC and tear gas.

Stun guns too come in a plethora of sizes, shapes, and voltage potentials. As tiny as a pen or as massive as a magnum sized device; in the form of a pen, pager, cell phone, flashlight, baton, and expandable baton; ranging from 10,000 volts to almost 1 million volts. Carrying the stun gun concealed is the best method to surprise an attacker since it has to make contact for it to be effective. Concealment means size consideration; so, a pager size stun gun that emits close to a million volts would be most effective. Remember that the bigger the voltage, the more spectacular and louder the spark. This is advantageous as a deterrent against aggressive dogs. Their hearing is more sensitive to a broader band of sound frequencies; therefore, they are more in tune and fearful of the crackling sound of a discharging stun gun.

From personal experience, I was jogging along a rice field at 4 A.M. in 1999 in an Asian country when several dogs from farm houses began chasing me, barking loudly. Fortunately, I was carrying my Air Taser in a ***** pack. I took the cartridge off to act as a stun gun when I discharged it. Emitting 50,000 volts of crackling arc bouncing to and from the 2 electrodes, I was surprised to see the dogs being spooked all of a sudden, unable to further chase me.

Even though a stun gun can discharge as much as 1 million volts, the wattage is not large enough to kill since it only has a few milliamperes of current, much like static electricity. A stun device can, however, numb muscle groups after being zapped from at least 3 to 5 seconds. Therefore, have your stun gun make contact with the "perp's" major muscle groups such as the neck, shoulder, back, groin, and thigh areas.

Tasers, on the other hand, are a different breed of beasts than stun guns. The civilian versions have disposable cartridges that fire 2 probes up to 15 feet. However, the ideal distance between victim and perpetrator should be between 5 to 7 feet apart when discharged. Thus, the shooter is able to subdue the attacker remotely, a certain advantage especially when the bad guy is armed with a knife and/or a gun. Additionally, Tasers emit "T-waves" that overwhelms the human body's nervous system, rendering the whole body incapable of voluntary movement which lasts several minutes.

Current models in the market are the C2 and M18. The former resembles a slim TV remote control while the latter looks like an oversized Glock 17 semiautomatic pistol. In my opinion, most successful deployments of Tasers are when they are initially concealed from attackers, when they are surprised and unable to defend themselves. Undoubtedly, the obvious choice for carry is the C2 for its diminutive size.

Surprisingly, a folding pocket knife can be considered a non-lethal weapon as long as it can applied with skill in the hands of a martial artist trained in Escrima, Arnis, Kali, and Penkjat Silat. Limbs can be rendered totally useless by cutting, slashing, and puncturing into nerves, tendons, and muscles. Of course, arteries and internal organs must be avoided. A less bloody and messy way of controlling a "perp" would be to keep the knife folded and use it as an impact weapon, similar to a Kubotan. I carry a Cold Steel Voyager Tanto folding blade with a 5-inch plain edge off duty. Cold Steel is known for manufacturing knives that are sharp, durable, and reasonably priced. Also, I find the Voyager series folding knives lighter and more balanced between the handles and blades compared with another model folders called Recon 1 which have far heavier handles. One drawback, however, with Cold Steel's serrated edge is that it tends to snag, unlike Cutco kitchen knives that have functional serrations.

If you are going to purchase a folding knife for your own, I recommend choosing one with a Tanto designed tip, similar to the tip of a Samurai or Ninja sword, since they are the most durable. More so, test the edge whether it is plain or serrated, to determine how effectively the knife cuts. The more skilled you are in mastering your weapons, the more you control their lethality.

Never forget though that the most lethal weapon of all is your mind!

By: Carlton Straeker

About the Author:

Let us look at some facts, which will throw light upon the crime rate and how much our society is susceptible to crime and violent attacks. The crime index rate in the US is measured Per 100,000 people and it saw a huge jump from 1,887.2 in 1960 to a whopping 5,897.8 in 1991. According to crime reports, the crime rate in 1991 in the US had jumped by 313% since the 1960's.

The crime rate comprises of all reported crime and the categories include Murder, Property, Forcible Rape, Aggravated assault, Robbery, Burglary, Vehicle theft, and Larceny-theft. Here is a comparison of crime rate in the US from 1980 to 2005 in multiples of 5 years:

Year ------ No. of Offenses (Violent Crime) ------ No. of Offenses (Property Crime)

1980 ----------------- 1,345 --------------------------------------- 12,064

1985 ----------------- 1,328 --------------------------------------- 11,103

1990 ----------------- 1,820 --------------------------------------- 12,655

1995 ----------------- 1,799 --------------------------------------- 12,064

2000 ----------------- 1,425 --------------------------------------- 10,183

2005 ----------------- 1,391 --------------------------------------- 10,166

Source: U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The above figures go on to show that the crime rate was at its maximum in the period between 1985 and 1995. Although, the figures have come down but the improvement is not good enough. In such a scenario, what can you do as an individual? The answer to this lies in self-defense. There are several forms of self-defense including martial arts and use of pepper spray but the most common and legal forms in US include:

Stun Guns Tasers Pepper Sprays Concealed Handguns Expandable Batons Animal Repellents

Let us take a look at how each of these weapons for self-defense can be use

Stun Guns

Over a period of time, stun guns have completely evolved and are considered as one of the safest and effective weapons of self-defense. It is not only easy to use but it also more discreet and you can conceal it in your handbag as well. A stun gun of today is easily capable of generating around 200,000 volts and even more, which can easily leave a person incapacitated for 30 minutes. The advantage is that you can find different types of stun guns in the market like the stun gun flashlight, cell phone stun gun, stun baton, raptor stun gun, stun pen, small fry mini stun gun, expandable baton, stun stick, and several other variations including a rechargeable stun gun. But the only disadvantage of a stun gun is that you have to be close enough to the attacker to be able to use it.

The stun gun throws an electronic charge at the body of the attacker. Once it is firmly planted on the body, the high voltage low amps charge can easily disable a 6-foot man without causing any serious damage to the attacker. The attacker will feel excruciating pain as their muscles start to spasm and at the same time the level of their blood sugar will be depleted. Basically, it is one of the safest and effective weapons to use against an attacker in a close range.

Tasers

A Taser is quite similar to the stun gun in more ways than one. This is a weapon that sends an electroshock into the body of the attacker to de-capacitate them. The Taser works on a technology known as Electro-Muscular Disruption (EMD), which causes neuromuscular incapacitation or NMI and can be considered responsible for the strong muscle contractions that the attacker feels. The muscle contractions take place due to the involuntary stimulation of motor nerves as well as the sensory nerves. In fact, due to this particular reason, the Taser has become a favorite of law enforcement agencies in the US and other countries as well. It is even preferred over some of the traditional stun guns. The two main models used by law enforcement agencies include the M26 and X26. Both these Tasers are available with different accessories including a mounted digital video camera, which is capable of recording in low light conditions and laser sight.

The Taser works by firing two small darts, which consists of electrodes. The electrodes are connected to the main unit by a thin conductive wire and are propelled through the air with the help of compressed nitrogen charges. Each of the air cartridges consist of a pair of electrodes as well as a propellant that has to be replaced after each shot. Each of the Taser cartridges is available for propelling at different ranges. The maximum range for a Taser cartridge is 10.6 meters or 35 feet and this is available only for law enforcement agencies. If you are planning to buy a Taser then your cartridge will be limited to 4.5 meters or 15 feet.

The good thing about Taser electrodes is that they can penetrate clothing and have a barbed surface so that they can’t be removed once they get attached to the skin. The good news is that Tasers can be carried legally without a permit in almost 43 US States although they are still prohibited for use in self-defense by citizens in the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Wisconsin.

Pepper Spray

Pepper spray is another very effective method of self-defense that women all over the world use against attackers or stalkers. Pepper spray is also called the OC spray as it has been derived from Oleoresin Capsicum. Some of the other common names of the pepper spray include capsicum spray and OC gas. Pepper spray is considered to be a good weapon of self-defense because of its lachrymatory qualities. The chemical in the spray irritates the eyes of the attacker and forces them to shut. It also causes pain, tears and temporary blindness and it is important to understand that too much of pepper spray can be lethal as well.

You can find pepper spray in most of the supermarkets and other stores which stock self-defense equipments. It is available in canisters and can easily be concealed. It looks almost like a smaller version of a deodorant canister. Off late, due to its increased usage, companies have started offering pepper spray in innovative products like a ring or a cigarette lighter. The smaller it is, the better it can be concealed!

Concealed Handgun

There are different laws in different countries for carrying a concealed handgun and in the United States it is known as concealed carry. You can carry a concealed handgun only after you get your license or legal authorization for the gun. As the name suggests, these guns are a little different from what the military or the police uses. These guns are smaller and can be easily concealed. Of course the choice of concealed handgun that you can carry will vary from one state to another. There are some states that will allow you to carry multiple concealed handguns while other states will restrict the use of even one handgun. So before you can go ahead and purchase a concealed handgun refer to the laws applicable in your state. Here is a list of the various types of concealed handguns that you can carry or use legally:

Pocket Guns: Airweight snubnose revolvers, Berettas, Seecamp .32's, Derringers, and Airweight snubnose .38 Special revolver Medium Frame Revolvers: S&W Model 66 and Ruger GP Series Medium Frame Auto Pistols: Para-Ordnance P12, S&W 39xx, 59xx, and 69xx series, Glock 17, 19, 21 and 22 series, the SIG 22x series, Kimber ProCarry and Compact, H&K USP and P7, Springfield Champion, and several others.

Expandable Batons

Batons have always been used by law enforcement agencies but off late you can use them as well for thwarting any attack by an intruder or stranger. You can find different types of expandable batons in the market including the expandable telescopic baton, which is considered to be an intimidating and powerful weapon of self-defense. There are two reasons for carrying an expandable baton:

1)It would be a warning to anyone who wants to attack you as the baton can clearly be seen

2)If someone still chooses to attack you then with the help of the baton you will be able to take them down quickly and efficiently. Some of the different sizes available include 16" expandable telescopic baton, 21" expandable telescopic baton, and 17" expandable telescopic spring baton

Animal Repellents

Animal repellents comprise of different types of chemicals and can be used for self-defense against bears, dogs, cats, and other animals. All animals’ repellents can be classified in 2 specific categories:

1) Taste repellent: This type if animal repellent is known as gustatory repellents repel and they taste really bad. 2) Odor repellent: These animal repellents are also known as olfactory repellents and leave an odor that is disturbing to the animals.

The crux of the matter is that you should always take necessary measures to protect yourself when you are driving, in a crowded place, in a dark alley or in a park. Any of the above weapons of self-defense can be your life saving decision.

By: James

About the Author:

What are airsoft guns ?

Airsoft guns are realistic-looking toy guns that fire small plastic BBs to ranges of 25 to 45m at speeds of around 75 - 100 meters per second. Airsoft game is a paintball-like team game that's originally come out of Japan.

Most airsoft weapons come with hop-up and come in three basic types:

1) Springers - manually **** the firing spring before each shot is required.

2) Gas - use compressed gas to propel BBs .

3) Electric - the most popular and the hottest automatic weapons that use a motor to push back the spring between shots with a rate of fire of up to 1000 rounds per minute . Good for both of experts and beginners , especially for beginners .

There are so many different types of guns to be used in paintball. There are electric guns and airsoft guns. But there are so many different brands of guns to choose from, how do you know which ones to choose. One style of gun is the Tokyo Marui Glock 17 3rd Generation Airsoft. This is a gas blowback air pistol. This air soft gun looks like a real pistol. It is an accurate pistol that looks very, very real. Another real looking gun is from the company CYMA, you can get these guns in Machine Markers, Assault rifles, Sub Machine Markers and even a James Bond Pistol. These are just a few of the air soft rifles.

Some of these markers are cheap gas and electric air soft guns. These guns are for those beginner players that are just starting out. The more experienced players play with markers that cost anywhere from $ 400 to $ 2000 plus. The experienced players take the game much more seriously, they are weekend players and tournament players not a once a month player. They know what it is like to get hit with a paintball or a BB and they don’t mind because their adrenaline is pumping and they can’t feel it. That is a true player.

ICS is another name brand of air soft markers. There is the ICS MP5 A4 is a AEG. This markers is made from metal and you can use one battery charge all day. The starter pack comes with the marker, the battery, the charger and a 3700 rounds of BB’s. The ICS CAR97 with LE Stock. This gun has a full metal body with a reinforced barrel. It can carry 400 round magazine, it is a great gun for the advanced player.

The UTG which stands for Under the Gun. This air soft brand is run by the company leapers. The UTG line is not for kids or beginners. These are hard core markers. The Accushot Competition Shadow has the Ultimate Bolt Action Airsoft Spring Rifle. The marker comes with a spare magazine, tactical sniper rifle sniper with an effective long range shooting. These guns are not toys they should be left for tournament players only.

These markers all run a pretty penny and while you want the best products you don’t want to spend your life’s savings on one marker unless you have to. There are so many places where you can find less expensive markers. On the site Cheap-Airsoft-Guns.net you can get a wide variety of air soft guns for a less expensive price. They have so many in stock that it may be hard to buy just one. They have great air soft pistols like the Green Gas Guns, Electric Blade Trinity Style, Electric Robocop Pistol FPS-150 Blowback Airsoft guns. They have the AEG Electric M4, The Spring Pump Riot Shotgun Remington 870 with FPS-250 Pistol Grips. They have the UTG series, the Spring Well MP5 Sub.

Choose your markets carefully, these super powerful markers are not for indoor play they should be used outside and all players should be wearing the proper equipment . Everyone would be wearing safety glasses and the proper attire. When using these markets make sure the safety is on until you are ready to shoot because these markers can go off accidentally, almost like a real gun.
Dr. Ignatius Piazza – mean anything to you? Maybe Front Sight Firearms Training Institute? Only those without any connections to the professional firearms realm can answer “no” to both questions. Those affiliated with the firearms industry, firearms training industry or movie industry know the name of the former chiropractor who has, in eleven short years, developed the most effective, most luxurious, most famous firearms training facility extant: Front Sight Firearms Training Facility.

Perhaps what sets Piazza and Front Sight furthest above all other training facilities is their focus on how important gun education is and why it is so important. Gun control is vital to a country like ours – founded on a violent revolution, as it is. Our country would never have existed if there hadn’t been knowledgeable, capable people ready to take up arms. Our country’s forefathers would have been utterly incapable without responsible understanding of firearms. Jefferson, Hamilton, Adams, Franklin and Jay could have pontificated all they liked, but if it hadn’t been for Washington and his men and their knowledge of firearms and effective use, we’d all be saying “guv’nah”, “cheerio” and “bollocks” right now.

In today’s American society, it is a simple matter of turning on the evening news to see how scared many Americans are of firearms. For some reason, we conceive firearms to be an ungodly, uncontrollably destructive force that must be legislated into submission. Not so! It is common knowledge that the vast majority of accidental firearm deaths and even gun murders are committed by those people with no firearm training! Well, perhaps this data is not quite as common as one would hope; perhaps that can be blamed on us, the media. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that we have supplied the public with terrifying propaganda rather than empowering data.

There is hope! It is on the fundamental idea that with knowledge of a subject one also gains responsibility for that subject that Dr. Ignatius Piazza founded and now operates Front Sight. In our day and age, “responsibility” is often treated as a four-letter word, but the responsibility that Dr. Piazza shows us is a downright enjoyable one! Handguns, shotguns, rifles, Glock 17’s, Colt 1911’s, Remington’s, Mossberg’s, AR-15’s, AK-47’s, it doesn’t end! What guy – or gal! – wouldn’t love to be out on the field blasting away at targets, and learning how to make that awesome shotgun sound you hear in the movies so much? (It does sound like that! And it sounds even cooler in real life!)

Not only does one gain responsibility over firearms from Dr. Piazza’s incredible system, but one’s skill dramatically increases! No matter how well any person may claim to be able to shoot, or how much they think that they’re a natural, anyone can learn more about shooting and increase their competency with Dr. Piazza – he’s not a Four Weapons Combat Master for nothing! There is a considerable amount of justified pride in being able to accurately and quickly take out paper and metal targets, and just one weekend at Front Sight will earn you quite a bit of that pride!

Plus, who isn’t attracted to the idea of spending a weekend at a luxury-class resort and learning how to fire, maintain and handle firearms? Your friends’ jaws will drop when you recap your weekend.

Dr. Ignatius Piazza and Front Sight are boons to all of America. His methods are effective, his students are responsible and able, and his theory is sound! What a wonderful experience Front Sight is. Truly do I recommend it to anyone and everyone even slightly interested in learning more about firearms and their effective use. My hat is off to Dr. Piazza and his wonderful staff!

By: Jayden Adams

About the Author:

Several days ago, an unfortunate shooting took place in New York City. A team of five undercover police officers were sitting in a van outside a strip club doing surveillance. There was an additional officer outside on foot in radio contact with the van. A gentleman of African American descent was celebrating his wedding which was supposed to be the next day with two of his friends.

The three individuals left the club, got into their car and came under suspicion of the officer who was on foot and in plain clothes. The officer approached the car, wearing his badge. The driver of the car bolted. The officer thereupon radioed the five officers in the van that I think he has a gun. At that point, the car with the three individuals in it crashes into the van with the five cops, not once but twice.

A hale of bullets, some fifty in all follow. One officer fired 31 times by himself. The driver of the vehicle, who was supposed to be married the next day, dies in the shooting, and his two companions were wounded. In the crime scene that followed no one finds a gun that could have been used by the gentlemen in the car.

What follows next is EVERYBODY IS JOCKEYING FOR POSITION. The Mayor announces that firing that many bullets (over 50) is "UNACCEPTABLE", while the police commissioner keeping his cool, talks about the evidence not being completely in yet to form a judgment. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton get in on the act, and stir up old angers in the African American community.

The first thing I say is, "Thank God, two of the officers in question were black, and one Hispanic. The remaining two officers were white. The second thing is that the Mayor has never been in a shoot-out. The closest he comes to a gun is the police unit that protects him, and his $10 billion dollar Forbes 400 fortune. So what is Bloomberg trying to do? We can only conjecture. It does seem possible that he is positioning himself for a run for the Presidency in 2008, and he does not want to seem overly bias to the police department. It seems to me he is patronizing the Black community, which is just as bad.

The Police Commissioner, Raymond Kelly is also positioning himself for a run for Mayor of New York in the next two years. This means he has to watch what he says also. I can't begin to imagine what a police officer has to go through to make a decision in an instant to use his gun.

Human beings have five million years of evolution built into them. The most primitive emotional basis of our history is the "Fight or Flight" response. In a moment of intense fear, or panic as in when lions were chasing us 50,000 years ago, our sympathetic nervous system kicked in. Our brains are not thinking, instead instantly, extremely powerful chemicals start to flush through the body. These include noradrenalin, adrenaline, and cortisol which are released by the adrenal glands.

These chemicals are so powerful that they overwhelm the body. Your emotional brain is preparing your body for FIGHT. The moment that first bullet went off; each officer involved assumed they were being shot at. All of them immediately emptied their automatic weapons at the car in question. NYPD officers are no longer permitted to carry revolvers as their primary weapons. They are instead required to carry semi automatic weapons such as the Glock 17, with a five pound trigger pull and a magazine that can fire 17 rounds. It is called a Glock 17 because it was the 17th patent taken out by its inventor.

Most police officers carry 15 rounds in the magazine until the spring is broken in. You can however fire all 17 rounds in seconds, and that's just what happened. The Mayor is playing to the grandstand, and knows less than nothing about a gun fight. Once you fire, you don't say to yourself is two or three shots enough? You don't even know if you have hit anything. The adrenaline keeps pouring through your body, you can barely stand up.

Unfortunately we have these preconceived attitudes generated by watching too many police shows on television. An example would be the various CSI television shows which show the crime scene detectives solving the case, and arresting the perpetrator. That's nonsense; crime scene detectives NEVER EVER arrest anyone. They simply investigate the crime scene, and turn over the evidence to homicide detectives who do the searching and the arrests.

Only in the movies and television do we see cool cops acting calm under pressure. In real life, the fear that takes over the body is completely overwhelming. At some point in each of our lives, you have probably been stopped by a police officer for a traffic violation. You might remember the adrenaline rush you feel in your own body when this happens. What you don't know is the adrenaline rush the police officer is feeling in his body when this happens.

There is nothing more frightening than a police officer pulling somebody over at night on a quiet road. The officer has no idea what is going to happen, or who he is encountering. There is a feeling of panic that is pervasive.

I am sure in the incident at the night club that the officers regret the unfortunate ending to a terrible situation. I believe that although they may be charged and tried for this incident, I do not believe that any REASONABLE jury would ever convict. If convicted by a biased jury, the case would be overturned on APPEAL. Nevertheless, some people including the Mayor may try to make political hay out of this tragedy. If so, he will not benefit long-term, people tend to see through these situations to what is really going on.

I will leave you with these thoughts. Seventy years ago, my father, than a 17 year old teenager was walking by an armored truck parked on the avenue. The rear doors were opened and my father decided to peer in, somewhat upsetting a guard who was sitting in the truck. The guard looked at my father, and said, "You know young man; you hardly ever get into trouble minding your own business." When the car drove into the van containing the five police officers TWICE, the driver was certainly not minding his own business. We should all pause for thought. Good luck

By: Richard Stoyeck

About the Author:

Before the advent of the C2, civilians were limited to acquiring the 34000 Series Air Taser which is bigger in size and less ergonomic in shape. Then, the M18 Taser became available in the market for civilians as well as the M26 Taser for law enforcement. Both models are bigger and resemble the shape of a Glock 17 semiautomatic 9mm pistol. These are too bulky to be carried concealed; although, they possess higher power ratings of 18 and 26 watts, respectively, compared to the Air Taser which only produces 7 watts.

The C2, however, is small enough to be carried concealed with the shape of a hand phaser from Star Trek: The Next Generation. It shoots 2 probes up to 15 feet; although, the ideal distance to your target should be between 5 to 7 feet. The longer the distance, the higher probability that you might miss a human target even though you are aiming at the center mass, the area of the body below the neck and above the hips. The reason for this is that the top needle from the cartridge shoots out at a straight trajectory while the other needle at the bottom ejects at a slightly lower angle, thereby hitting the target with the probes at a distance from each other. This causes the charge to be distributed through the body further. The cartridge itself, which is disposable after 1 firing, propels the probes with nitrogen, an inert gas. This is why the BATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) does not classify Tasers as firearms.

Since the producers of the Taser does not disclose the power rating of the C2, I am guessing that its power output is between 7 to 12 watts, enough to approximately incapacitate a human being from 86% to 92% of the time. According to the Smith brothers, the founders of the Taser, the stopping power of the C2 is greater than a typical shot from a .38 or 9mm caliber handgun. This device has a less non-lethal dose of charge than the M18, M26, X26, and X29 Tasers since it produces less power. Nevertheless, the family of Tasers is non-lethal, or "less-than-lethal," type of gadgets as researched and proved by engineers who published their findings to IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) magazine about 6 to 9 months ago. Contrary to what "ambulance chaser" lawyers claim, the effects of Tasers alone cannot kill a person. What distinguishes Tasers from stun guns is that the former emits "T-waves" or a charge that has a similar frequency as a human body's nervous system. This effect overwhelms the nervous system, thereby paralyzing the subject for about 2 to 15 minutes. On the contrary, the charge from stun guns overwhelms muscle groups, rendering just a part of the body numb for less amount of time.

C2, as in all Taser models, has its limitations also. First, it is an electronic device which is prone to malfunction. Yet, I have yet to see a malfunctioning Taser. It if works the first time, it should reliably work every time. Second, the probes have to penetrate the skin to be effective. If a human target is wearing more than 2 inches of clothing or is wearing loose clothing, the needles might not contact the skin to work. That scenario happened last year in a booking area where my co-worker used an M26 against a combative female suspect with loose clothing to no effect; she just stood upright while being zapped. Third, you are limited in firepower since you can only install a disposable cartridge one at a time, which might limit your options if you are confronted by multiple opponents. But, you can use any Taser as a stun gun after the cartridge is spent.

Weighing the pros and cons of carrying a C2, it is better to have one than not. The Taser affords you distance between you and the perpetrator especially if he or she is armed. A stun gun would be of little or no use at all in that situation. Additionally, the paralyzing effect is instantaneous, unlike pepper spray which takes several seconds to work. If you cannot lawfully carry a firearm to protect yourself, the C2 is probably the next best thing as long as you have a backup weapon, such as a stun gun, pepper spray, or a knife, just in case it fails. A good rule of thumb dictates to never rely on any equipment to function every single time. For good measure, always have a contingency plan!

By: Carlton Straeker

About the Author:

When you leave the UK with your mates on a Europe Stag Weekend to say, Budapest or Krakow, two of the hottest stag weekend destinations you aren't just leaving behind your wives, girlfriends, work and family for a weekend's fun. You're also leaving behind British gun laws!!!

Get your hands on the spy film sounding .45 Heckler and Koch, the .357 Magnum, the Hungarian F...G B9R, the Czech CZ 75, the Jericho 9mm and the Glock-17. Load them up and shoot'em. Of course you'll receive full safety instructions and brief introductions to each handgun's use and history, then you split into groups of four for some high-calibre target practice firing off approximately 70 rounds. There is a competition to finish.

You can shoot a variety of packages with guns particular to Russian guns, Police guns, rifles, or a mix. Also, we offer a variety of bullets from 30-100 for beginner or those wanting to try it without spending much up to those wanting to try it all. They can always purchase more rounds on site if they enjoy it at a low cost.

It gets better. If you go on a professionally organised stag weekend to Krakow not only can you let rip with a range of pistols and even a pump-action shotgun as part of your shooting activity, but there's even a Kalashnikov AK47 package. Off limits in the UK you and your mates have the rare chance to experience the power and the thrill of a fully automatic weapon.

In addition to shooting real guns at inanimate targets there are many opportunities to shoot replica guns at each other in the form of Paintball and the illegal in the UK Airsoft. Airsoft competitors not only receive Airsoft pistols and smoke grenades but also 1000 bullets. Dressed to kill in full uniforms and protective gear with two-way radios for communication you'll receive professional instruction and the avid support of a lovely local guide. Lots and lots of shooting tales to be shared around a spit roasted pig washed down with delicious local beer once peace has been restored.

If shooting's not your thing there are plenty of other action packed activities to enjoy on a stag weekend in Europe. As well as more relaxed gun laws Eastern Europe offers other non-British advantages - plenty of snow in winter, for example. Snowmobiles offer an unforgettable way to discover the Tatras, one of Poland's most breathtaking mountain regions. There's also snow rafting and in warmer months white water rafting on the Dunajec River. Talking of *********** - waterskiing, jetskiing and wakeboarding are also all available as part of many professionally organised stag packages - all with appropriate equipment, professional instructors, safety training and even a lovely local guide.

Petrol heads - You can race 200cc karts right to the limit on Budapest's 820 metre outdoor circuit with speeds of 40 mph or go Quadbike racing in the scenic countryside around the city. Experience the mud, sweat and tears of all-weather quad biking on a purpose-built racetrack. However, the mother of all stag weekend driving activities has to be the Budapest Banger Racing and Crash Derby where you get to race and smash up a load of souped-up racing Trabants, It's the real deal - each person participates at their own risk and is obliged to sign a waver before the race, so make sure you're ready to take your life in your hands before you get behind the wheel.

There's clearly a lot more to Krakow stag weekends and stag weekends in Budapest than just turning up and drinking the local bar dry - especially for those who like a bit of adventure.

By: Josey Walker

About the Author:

I first heard about Warren Tactical Series (WTS) sights from World Champion shooter, Dave Sevigny, a few years ago. Dave told me that he had discovered something good. He spoke of new sights that will give the shooter an advantage, and that they would be coming out very soon. I kept in touch with Dave throughout that year, and eventually my efforts paid off. A business associate told me about Scott Warren. Scott turned out to be a 21-year veteran of the FBI, and a 15-year member of the FBI’s Hostage Rescue Team. When I dug a little deeper, my friend told me that Scott is the lead tactical firearms instructor for that team. I had heard of Scott as a National level competitive shooter, but his day job was news to me. The rest is history. I knew from the beginning, that with Scott’s and Dave’s collective knowledge and experience in the real world and the competitive arena, that these US made sights would be huge. After selling hundreds of Warren Tactical Series sights to recreational shooters, competitors, and law enforcement alike, they are still selling strong. When people call, a common question is, “Which sights should I get?” Much of sight selection is preference, but here are tips that can help, when considering which set of WTS Glock sights will work for you.

Facts on WTS Rear Sights

When you speak of Warren Tactical Series sights, the topic starts with the rear sight. WTS rear sights come in two distinct models. One is the Sevigny design, which is offered in a “Competition” or “Carry” configuration. The other design offered, is the “Warren Tactical”.

The Sevigny design was a joint effort between WTS’s founder Scott Warren and world-class Glock champion Dave Sevigny. The Sevigny design is a variant of Scott’s original design, and takes on the traditional approach with its bold squared-off design. But, unlike other sights, both the Warren and Sevigny rear blades are void of distracting serrations, undercuts, or odd angles; which promotes a uniquely sharp, crisp outline. The rear surfaces of both sights are back-cut, which slopes gently back and up toward the shooter, avoiding distracting rear light reflections. Both sights have a generously wide squared notch, measuring .120” tall by .150” wide. The idea is to allow plenty of light to come through on either side of the front sight, for lightening quick target acquisition. If you have any doubt on just how quick lightening really is, watch Dave Sevigny and Scott Warren in action. The difference in the Sevigny Competition and Carry configuration is simple. The Competition rear’s vertical edges are sharper, while the Carry rear’s vertical edges are rounded to help in avoiding snags during carry.

The Warren Tactical design came from Scott Warren’s years of law enforcement and champion action shooting. He spent years studying and developing a design that works. The Warren Tactical patented design, quickly directs your eye to the front sight, because like the Sevigny design, there are no distracting serrations, undercuts, or odd angles. Unlike the Sevigny design, the Warren Tactical less traditional design has a unique configuration which directs the shooters eyes to the front sight. Basically there is less material getting in the way of your eye, front sight, and the target. Scott’s thinking, is to allow the shooter to see as much of the target as possible. The unique notch design, with radiused corners, compliments the gentle sloping of the overall Warren Tactical look. There are no sharp edges to distract the shooter. Warren Tactical design is considered “Carry Friendly”™, which has become quite popular with law enforcement personnel, but has also been a favorite with recreational and competitive shooters. I can always tell when Scott has just held a training class in a given area, because of the increase of orders from that area within the following week. When you see the rear sight, and Scott’s high caliber shooting with it, you’re sold.

Front Sights

Front sights are offered in several configurations. Sevigny Competition sets come with .115 front sights, while Warren Tactical sets come with .125 fronts. Changes can be made upon request.

Both plain and fiber optic front sights have ramped serrations on the shooter’s side, at 50 lines per inch. The Tritium fronts are ramped, with no serrations. Plain, fiber optic, and Tritium are all .215” high.

Choices

So you might say, “Aside from the facts, which sights should I use?” To discover which sight to select, let’s consider how you’re using your Glock. Are you carrying it? …using it on the job? …shooting in competition? The Sevigny Carry and Warren Tactical rears have rounded edges, which work well for carry, but don’t discount them for practical shooting competition. If you’re shooting under bright sunny skies, then fiber optic fronts are great, drawing your eye to that front sight’s bright dot. If you’re shooting in low-light, then the Tritium fronts work very well. Really low-light shooters often select Tritium rears and fronts.

Should you use the single Tritium lamp or the double lamp rear sight? In this case, it really comes down to preference. Some shooters swear by single lamp rears, while others say that the double lamp is definitely the way to go. Still others insist that no rear lamp is needed, because the front sight does all the work. “That’s where your eye belongs anyway…” Dave Sevigny stands by the single Tritium lamp in the rear with his design, while Scott Warren’s design offers the shooter choice of one or two rear Tritium lamps.

Who Uses Warren Tactical Series Sights?

Let’s review a few facts. Just in 2007 alone, half of the top 30 shooters at the USPSA Production National Championships used WTS sights. Also in 2007, 9 of the top 14 overall IDPA champs at the National Championships got the job done with the sight picture of WTS sights. When you consider the fiercely competitive sight market, these statistics are remarkable. Here are just a few names of champions who use Warren Tactical design: Julie Goloski, Phil Strader, Donnie Burton, Ernest Langdon, Dave Olhasso, Arron Roberts, Gordon Carrell, and of course Scott Warren. These champions use the Sevigny Competition sights: Bob Vogel, Randy Rogers and of course Dave Sevigny. If you know anything about the practical shooting sports , you know that these folks know the game, and work hard at playing it right. In addition to the champions named above, the Air Force shooting team, the Smith & Wesson shooting team, and the Blackwater shooting instructors are all using Warren Tactical Series sights. Of course, let’s not forget the hundreds of happy customers that have purchased from my site.

Variety

Although that is where the journey began, Warren Tactical Series offers more than just Glock sights. Since then, Scott has introduced sights for the S&W M&P, SIG, and S&W’s 5903/5905 & 1911. More sights are in the works. If you have a question on the availability of new models, please contact me through www.MLE-ShootingSports.com. I should mention that WTS sights are all constructed of steel hardened to RC 35-40, so they can stand up to tough use in the field and on the range. If you ever have a problem with any of the WTS sights, no need to be concerned, they are 100% guaranteed.

By: MLE

About the Author:

In the early 1980's, the Austrian government was looking for a new standard issue pistol for the country's armed forces. Requirements for the new pistol included ease of use, light weight, accuracy, and reliability.

Glock had been producing equipment for the Austrian army for decades, but had never been in the business of making firearms. At the urging of members of the Austrian military, Glock began research and development on a pistol that would meet the military's needs.

The result was the Glock 17, a 9 millimeter pistol that utilized new polymer technology for non-stress-bearing parts such as the grip frame. Lightweight and extremely reliable, the Glock 17 was quickly adopted by military and law enforcement agencies worldwide.

The new pistol also caught the attention of the media, Hollywood and, of course, anti-gun groups. Despite the fact that 86% of the pistol was made from hardened steel, Glock pistols were inaccurately described as being undetectable by airport x-ray screening. For example, in the movie "Die Hard 2," Lieutenant John McClane (played by Bruce Willis) makes a comment about the Glock being invisible to airport screening devices.

True to form, politicians in Washington seized upon the media hype, and legislation was drafted in 1988 that would ban "plastic guns" that could evade airport screening devices. Despite the fact that no such gun existed then, or will exist in the foreseeable future, congress enacted a ban. Vice President **** Cheney, then a congressman from Wyoming, was one of only three members of congress who refused to ban a gun that didn't exist.

What does this "ancient history" have to do with 2008? Apparently plenty, at least with regard to the United States Supreme Court. During opening arguments in Heller vs. the District of Columbia on March 18 2008, justices and attorneys were keen on whether an individual right to bear arms would allow "plastic guns" that could go undetected by airport screening equipment.

One would think that such learned men would be above the hype, but apparently the ability to discern Hollywood from the real world is not a prerequisite for graduating from law school.

When congressmen, senators and Supreme Court justices base their decisions upon what is depicted in the movies, it's readily apparent why our country is headed in a downward spiral.

What's next to be banned? "Plastic cars" that can evade police radar scanners?

By: Richard A. Baker

About the Author:

The issue of 9mm vs. 45 calibers is relatively unimportant in the military (any military) of today. It is like the US Army worrying itself sick about a saber for the cavalry. Some companies have come up with a lot better solution to the pistol for today's soldiers and Marines that don't need or wish to carry an assault rifle. LOAD and LOCK! A couple of thoughts and hopes. 1st-"Don't count your chickens 'til they're hatched" We need to write/contact/input the testers and decision makers and let them know WE want the .45 ACP.

Second-For the hundred, no thousand plus time a 9mm bullet is .355 cal, a .45 is BIGGER thus it makes a BIGGER hole in the target. This means more blood loss- which translates to the enemy gets killed and the American hopefully comes home and tells his grandkids about reality land versus the "High-Tech" star wars game players.

3rd-For the devoted 9mm types out there(yes you with the coco-puffs) read the FBI report about the "Miami Shootout", after which they traded in their 9mm pistols, because of the facts of bullet wound examinations. 4th-Check-out the winners of most all pistol matches: Almost everyone uses a 1911/1911A1 in .45 ACP! Remember folks-We are talking about the ARMED FORCES of the USA...Sight Picture/Sight Alignment!

There is a reason that most of the militaries that have tested it have rejected it. Now, if the military wants a smaller primary weapon, the weapon already exists in the inventory. It is the SOCOM pistol made by HK, which for offensive purposes is a whole lot better than the P90.

Note that this contract is being let by USSOCOM. That means it is for a sidearm, not a primary weapon. And as a sidearm (meaning a secondary weapon carried by someone who also carries a primary weapon, usually a rifle), the M1911 .45 is superior to the P90 and to the HK and definitely to the Beretta. Don't be surprised if a Glock wins this contract.

I don't expect Glock to win a US military contract - the American military doesn't seem to like the idea of a pistol without multiple external safety levers and mechanisms. Glock pistols, great as they may be, use simple, idiot-proof internal safety mechanisms. If the Army did go with a Glock, it would be interesting to see if they would adopt the new 45 GAP cartridge.

Same caliber bullet, even available in the same bullet weights, loaded into a shorter case - to allow for a smaller handgun that takes advantage of modern propellants. I personally don't like Glock. I have large hands and shoot pistols with a double handed grip. I personally like the Colt 1911A1 series for its balance, weight, and comfort. But that's me. How about the USP .45? SOFs of course have been using the Mk23 for some time.

Who buys isn't always who gets. The Army's Automotive Tank Command has bought pistols for the USAF for example.SOCOM is the buyer; everybody is going to get these. That's what the "joint" in Joint Combat Pistol means. SOCOM sure does not need up to 645,000 pistols over 10 years. Some things are already set. They spent the last year or so with market surveys, field suitability tests, etc looking at what's out there, trying stuff, deciding what they wanted.

The Future Handgun System program wanted adjustable grips, accessory rail, threaded bbl, modular/variable trigger operating system (SA to DA to DAO). The SOF Combat Pistol program wanted a 45 ACP and would have settled for another 1911. Those were combined into this Joint Combat Pistol (JCP) program.

They want a 45 ACP, not a 45 GAP. Don't be surprised if Glock can't even compete depending on what the details are for the trigger operating system. Some folks think they had the HK USP full size and compact Tactical/P2000 in mind when they wrote the specs. Details will be in the RFP (request for proposals) that comes out next.

By: Victor Epand

About the Author:

In my personal experience as a non-law enforcement firearm carrier (concealed handgun licensee) over the last several years I have learned some key pieces of knowledge, out of necessity, to ensure my safety and comfort, as well as to those around me. In my job I have no restriction as to my CHL and therefore carry daily, being that my job also takes me outside for the majority of the time, and that I’m not in a constant sitting or standing position, comfort and adaptability have become integral in my clothing and holstering decisions.

I have carried everything from a J-Frame Smith and Wesson revolver to a Glock 17 daily, and I have found that no matter what I carry, the firearm I choose is subjected to high levels of moisture being under clothing, and against the body with little breathing room. These conditions led to the pitting and rusting of many of my guns, to which I had to clean and oil nightly. I have since changed over to only carrying Glock firearms as a result of the following facts: 1. The tennifer and steel combination they have designed has such a high level of rust resistance that after seeing the torture testing it is almost indisputable as to their resilience. 2. I also like the size of the compacts they produce as it is both easily concealable and still quite accurate and manageable. 3. The Glock is readily supplied with aftermarket options from a drop in trigger job to a full customization of the frame or even replacement with aftermarket frames made of aluminum or titanium. My personal choices have been a slightly lighter trigger pull, with extended slide release, and extended takedown lever; I have found that an extended magazine release causes the magazine to fall out in the course of my daily carry.

I typically prefer to carry outside the waistband as it allows more comfort and accessibility, but do find myself in clothing or situations where I must carry IWB (in the waistband). The largest problem I encounter with holsters is that they put the firearm in a position that causes it to show, whether a full outline or a **** sticking out. Paddle holsters have become my primary holsters, the reason being that they are the easiest to remove rapidly and replace should I have to enter a business or other building where concealed carry is prohibited or restricted. Another factor I consider in holsters goes with the above same condition of sweat and moisture, the majority of produced paddle holsters are injection molded plastic, or vacuum formed plastics, these obviously have great resistance to moisture, and they are extremely cost effective. While I prefer to carry outside the waistband I do find myself carrying IWB a proportionate amount of the time. When I must, the biggest of my concern becomes comfort. I own a variety of IWB holsters including the Fobus design which I will deem the most durable, and least comfortable because of its rigidity and pressure points, but it does allow a consistent draw as it is molded and not effected by moisture. Another style I own is simple leather fitted with steel belt clip; this is much more comfortable as it has much less pressure points or edges and a main footprint. The cost is affordable on these and I have found that unless I fully submerge the holster they are quite durable. I have played with the “pager pal” and others like it, but they simply don’t go well with the type of pants I prefer, but if you wear a baggy-crotched pant you should be alright. I really enjoy a “tuckable” holster such as the Galco USA as it allows carrying in situations where you must dress nicer, there is nothing worse than being the only guy in a room fully of suits with a polo on. My favorite for daily carry when it comes to IWB is a simple ballistic nylon holster with metal belt clip that works for a variety of guns. There is another holster that I wear quite often in place of an IWB or tuckable, and it is a “holster shirt”. It is much like a muscle mapping or base layer shirt being tight-fitting, but with a padded shoulder holster molded into the material, this is my preference, as it can be used with a button-up dress shirt and tie and I can leave a top button below the collar open to gain access when needed. Additionally there are holsters on each armpit so there is room for a firearm, knife, extra magazine, cash, whatever.

My biggest suggestion for choosing a firearm and holster is to evaluate the mass of your time spent carrying (including the weather, your clothing preference, your personal threat level, etc.) and determine if from that point what is best for you. You might find yourself having to open up to a firearm brand or model you typically don’t like, but it is the best for your personal situation. For example, I have been caught in several downpours where if I hadn’t been carrying my Glock, I would have caused significant damage to my firearm, and additionally the fact that I had a kydex holster allowed me to dry off the kydex and again avert further damage to both the holster and firearm, whereas a leather magazine carrier would have been severely damaged and cracked after drying.

By: Chad Reimer

About the Author:

The Springfield Armory XD pistols are one of the most popular pistols on the market, the only pistol that left handed shooters don’t feel left in the cold with. The solid reliable design of the XD pistol makes it a must have for tactical shooters and competitive shooters alike. The polymer design make the XD pistol not only strong, but very light, ideal for concealed carry and law enforcement.

Featuring the 1911 style rear safety and the ambidextrous magazine release, these tactical and affordable pistols are the new up and coming tactical pistols. With Springfield XD available in a wide range of calibers from 9mm, .357 sig, 40 S&W, 45 GAP, and 45 ACP. There is a XD pistol of any users. The Springfield XD was developed with point and shoot ergonomics, to make shooting feel more natural. The key is the grip angle working with your natural body design to maximize your gripping area.

Aside from the Springfield XD’s ease of use and naturally fitting design, the XD pistol has won several awards from groups like the NRA and handgun of the year. 2006 was a pretty outstanding year for XD pistols. With popularity growing, I expect these remarkable firearms to snowball their way to the top of the handgun industry. Featuring the accessory rail similar to Glock and other manufacturers, the Springfield XD is designed for everything from concealed carry to competitive shooting.

Originally manufactured in Croatia by Marko Vukovic, these wonderful went from privately made in 1991 to becoming adopted by Croatian Military by 1999. In the beginning there were some quality issues due to the lack of machinery and quality control, but since imported the bugs have been completely worked out and saw their first American sales in 2002. From the new kid on the block to competitor of Glock, pretty impressive for a five year stretch.

Featuring the easy field stripping ability without tools makes the Springfield XD a great choice for military applications, and first time shooters. The XD pistol is a solid design that makes for safe shooting, with relatively simple features to amateur shooters and professionals alike. After look at one of these pistols and the wide Springfield Armory product like with a fine toothed comb, the only ***** in company’s armor maybe the lack of after market parts. But with the ultra reliable design that shouldn’t ever become an problem.

So what about the torture test, the Springfield XD pistol has done it all from being buried in mud, rolled over by over ten tons, frozen, falling from fifteen meters, buried in sand, and not malfunctions at all. This performance wouldn’t have surprised me if you said Glock, but with the Springfield XD now that is impressive.

Aside from being so user friendly, being left hand friendly, and reliable, the Springfield XD is affordable, with a price tag under five hundred dollars, it’s amazing how a solid pistol is so economically priced. In all my years of working with firearms I would highly recommend one of these outstanding XD handguns to any of my friends or customers. For the future of Croatia these flawless XD pistols are one of the top exports and keep Croatia free, without the former CCCP proxy government to destroy such trades. We can all take advantage of these remarkable times, and support one of our best allies in Eastern Europe.

By: Chad Reimer

About the Author:

Originally made by Austrian watchmakers as decorative pocket watch chain fobs or as cufflinks, these miniature pinfire pistols are now prized collector's items. These are some from my own collection dating from 1904 to the 1970's. All of them fire 2mm blank pinfire cartridges. The revolvers are the world's smallest working double action blank firing pistols. They measure just 38mm in length and are smaller than the famous Swiss Mini Gun which measures 55mm.

PART 1 of 4:
Nutnfancy's review of the outstanding G17 pistol. Mired in un-founded controversy, the superb Glock 17 came to us in the 1980s. It was a ground breaking design that still stands tall to this day. It was the result of a start-from-scratch design by Austrian Mechanical Engineer Gaston Glock who had no previous firearms design experience. Amazing. To this day the Glock semi-auto pistols are Nutnfancys overall standard of measure for any new pistol design (especially in 9mm). When I study a new design I assess it on terms of some straight forward questions. Does it beat the Glock in terms of weight, firepower, durability and reliability, ergonomics, simplicity, availability of accessories, price, and proven track record? Generally the answer is no. Yes there are some great designs out there from other manufacturers and I'm a fan of those as well. But, when the above categories are objectively tallied and considered in their entirety, the Glock design usually comes out on top (at least for my system requirements). That's an amazing feat for a design that's decades old.
